KATHMANDU: Chairman of the CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli has said that 2026 needs to be the year of the revival of democracy and the constitution.
He said that the democracy that collapsed in 2025 and the constitution that was fragmented and violated need to be strengthened and lifted in 2026.
Addressing the Pravasi Nepali Coordination Committee (PNCC) via virtual medium on Thursday evening on the occasion of the New Year 2026, Chairman Oli said that 2025 was a tragic year for Nepal and Nepalis.
Stating that a major process of democratic displacement had seriously begun in Nepal, he said that due to the awareness of the Nepali, the anti-Semitic groups have not been able to take it to the desired place.
Chairman Oli said, “The collapse of the elected government means the collapse of democracy and the constitution in the country, the suppression, trampling, and overthrow of the sovereignty of the people.”
Stating that the current government is unconstitutional and the parliament was dissolved on the recommendation of an unauthorized person, he clarified that this is not just a matter of changing the Prime Minister but also an attack on the democratic system and process.
Although the date for the House of Representatives elections has been set, the environment for the elections has not yet been created and the government is not working towards creating the environment, Chairman Oli pointed out the danger of attempts to destroy democracy by abusing the democratic process in the name of elections.
