KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has resigned from his post. Adhikari quit the post on Tuesday, citing the government’s authoritarian response during Monday’s Gen Z protests.
In his resignation letter made public at Singha Durbar today, Nepali Congress lawmaker Adhikari said that instead of recognising citizens’ natural right to question democracy and stage peaceful protests, the state responded with widespread suppression, killings, and use of force, moving the country towards authoritarianism rather than democracy.
Ramnath Adhikari of Nepali Congress was elected as a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Dhading-2
“I hereby inform you that I have resigned from the ministerial post on moral grounds,” Minister Adhikari said.
Bijay Adhikari, son of Ramnath Adhikari, informed Gorkhpatra Online about the resignation of the agricultural minister.
