KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal will restart regular hearings, including writ petitions, from Sunday.
Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut said the Court’s emergency full bench decided on Thursday to begin registering writ applications and conducting regular hearings. In a statement, Chief Justice Raut thanked judges, court staff, lawyers, law students, security personnel, and citizens for helping protect the Court’s documents and resources during recent unrest.
The statement expressed deep sorrow over those who lost their lives on September 8-9 and wished a quick recovery for those injured.
It also condemned the destruction, arson, and looting that damaged court buildings, vehicles, and important documents. “Many important judicial records of Nepal were almost destroyed. Even in this situation, the judiciary remains committed to upholding the Constitution, the rule of law, and citizens’ right to justice,” the statement read.
The Supreme Court has promised to resume its work promptly and continue serving the public, staying firm and focused despite the challenges.
