Sweeping change imperative in politics: Minister Kharel

GANDAKI: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has said politics needs a sweeping change.

In his address to a programme organized by the Advertisement Board and the Ministry in Pokhara today, selection of right leadership is essential as the country has now engrossed in election to the House of Representatives (HoR) scheduled for coming March 5. The programme was province level interaction on monitoring, regulation and management of advertisement.

Election is fully ensured, Minister Kharel said, expressing belief that all political parties would submit the closed list of proportional representation to the Election Commission today under the HoR election. “A single person’s progress does not count but of nation, for which right leadership is essential,” he added.

The Minister further claimed the federal government and province government were facing stress, thereby blunting practical implementation of federalism. Only the foundation of politics, local government, is more accountable, it delivers well to the citizens, according to him.

The ministry would extend support in bringing policy reform relating to the advertisement. Effective monitoring and regulation of advertisement is necessary with proper law, Kharel stressed.

At the programme, Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal, informed that government was at work to make timely adjustment in advertisement law.

Board’s Chairman Laxman Humagain also said the Board was working actively to ensure effectiveness in advertisement system.

Chief Secretary of Gandaki Province government, Dunduraj Ghimire, underscored the need for adopting one-door policy in advertisement.
