Traffic on BP Highway to resume from tomorrow morning

A A+ A-

KAVREPALANCHOK: Diversions have been constructed on various sections of the BP Highway damaged by last week’s flood, and preparations have been made for operation of vehicles since Saturday morning.

A diversion is currently being constructed on the Kavrepalanchok section of the highway by redirecting the river.

Senior Divisional Engineer of the Divisional Road Office, Bhaktapur, Suman Yogesh, said that by this morning, the ‘track’ had been opened from Chauki Danda in Namobuddha Municipality-6, Kavrepalanchok, to Chiuribas in Roshi Rural Municipality.

He said the plan is to open the track on the entire damaged section of the highway by this afternoon. “Once the track is opened, we will test it operating some vehicles after checking the condition of the road again, and the highway will be fully operational from Saturday morning,” he added.

The flood from the Roshi River had washed away about four kilometres of road in the Roshi area. The construction of the diversion had been started on Tuesday.

Yogesh shared that about two dozen machines have been employed from Thursday afternoon to night for constructing a temporary road.

Flood and landslide had damaged the highway at 17 different locations. After last year’s flood and landslide damaged the road in the same area, a diversion was constructed and the road had been made temporarily operational.
