KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah has stated that the government remains fully committed to both the letter and the spirit of the Constitution.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Constitution Day, he emphasized that the government is dedicated to fulfilling the promises enshrined in the document through its actions.
“We are fully committed to our loyalty to the Constitution and its implementation, and I reiterate this pledge today,” the Prime Minister said. He added that the day the Constitution is fulfilled must be brought about through honest decisions, transparent appointments, and services delivered directly to citizens.
Highlighting that the public demands good governance, development, prosperity, and social justice, the Prime Minister stated that the government’s actions are centered on these aspirations. He noted that competitive multi-party democracy, human rights, and the rule of law are the foundations of national life. “This is the beginning, not the end. The roots of corruption and impunity are deep, but the hands working to uproot them are now stronger and more numerous. The government is aware that good governance is a mandatory prerequisite for development,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the current administration is focused on restructuring administrative bodies, maintaining zero tolerance against corruption, and ensuring merit-based appointments. He also outlined plans to build a knowledge-based economy by integrating artificial intelligence, digital technology, and cybersecurity into governance.
Addressing the recent destruction caused by the Bhote Koshi floods, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to friendly nations, the international community, and domestic stakeholders for their support in rescue and relief efforts. “Nepal is among the countries at high risk of disasters. We will face this reality not after a disaster strikes, but before. Special emphasis will be placed on risk reduction, preparedness, and response. The disaster early warning system will be implemented with top priority,” he stated.
The Prime Minister concluded by paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for political change and good governance, while extending condolences to the families of those who perished in the floods.
