NUWAKOT: The bodies of 22 people have been found inside a house buried under flood debris in Betrawati of Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot.
A security team involved in the search and rescue operation recovered six bodies from the site on Monday. Authorities are scheduled to continue retrieving the remaining 16 bodies on Tuesday.
The massive flood that swept through the Trishuli River in Rasuwa on Wednesday morning caused widespread destruction in Betrawati Bazaar. Six days after the disaster, rescuers located the 22 bodies at the same site while conducting search operations on Monday.
Authorities suspect that the victims may have taken refuge in the house after the flood hit the area. The recovered bodies are in an unidentifiable condition, making identification difficult.
Bipin Regmi, Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Office, Nuwakot, confirmed that numerous bodies had been located inside a house buried by the flood in Betrawati. He said six bodies were recovered during Monday’s operation and that the search team would resume efforts to retrieve the remaining bodies on Tuesday.
Betrawati-based journalist Laxman Dangol had earlier urged authorities to conduct an immediate search of the house. According to Dangol, the Chief District Officer had requested the Prime Minister’s Office to arrange a rescue operation, but the request did not receive a timely response.
