KATHMANDU: Nine hydropower projects’ employees and workers numbering 537 are unaccounted for since the devastating flash floods that wiped out Bhotekoshi and Trishuli River corridors on August 26.
According to the Independent Power Producers’ Nepal (IPPAN), 361 out of 898 employees and workers of nine hydroelectric projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts were rescued, while remaining 537 have remained out of contact.
Three-hundred people are still expected to be trapped inside a tunnel of 216-MW Upper Trishuli-I, while 254 have so far been rescued. Search operations continue in the tunnel.
Likewise, 93 have remained out of contact from 111-MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, while four from Rasuwa Bhotekoshi Hydroelectric Plant. Eighteen out of 42 have been rescued from the Langtang Khola Hydropower Project.
Similarly, eight people are unaccounted for from Chilime Hydropower, seven from Mailung Khola Hydropower, one from Trishuli Hydropower, one from Devighat Hydropower and 42 from Upper Trishuli-III A.
Moreover, 91 out of 122 who had gone missing from Upper Trishuli-III B Hydropower Project have been rescued safely. Two people are still missing from Middle Trishuli Ganga Hydropower Project.
