58 candidates vie for 11 joint general secretary posts

KATHMANDU: A total of 58 candidates have filed their nominations for the 11 joint general secretary positions under the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress.

According to the preliminary list published by the election committee, the candidates are competing across 10 distinct clusters.

Under the party’s statute, the 11 joint general secretary posts are divided into various categories. Two positions are reserved for the open category, while one position each is allocated for women, indigenous nationalities, Dalits, Madhesi, Khas Arya, Tharu, Muslim, backward regions, and minorities or persons with disabilities.

The election committee reported that the highest number of nominations was received for the open cluster, with 10 candidates vying for the two available seats.

The Madhesi cluster has eight candidates, followed by seven in the backward region cluster and five in the indigenous nationalities cluster.

Furthermore, the Dalit cluster and the minorities or persons with disabilities cluster each have four candidates. The women’s cluster has two candidates, while the Khas Arya and Tharu clusters have three candidates each.
