KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) released an official situation update confirming 734 fatalities and 2,498 individuals missing following devastating floods in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi region.
A total of 734 bodies and human remains have been recovered across several districts, including 259 in Chitwan, 184 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), 82 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), 58 in Gorkha, 52 in Nuwakot, 50 in Dhading, 36 in Tanahun, and 13 in Rasuwa, while 242 people are receiving treatment or have been discharged for injuries.
Search efforts are ongoing for 2,498 missing individuals, comprising 933 hydropower project personnel, 589 foreign nationals, 127 Nepalis traveling with foreign tourists, 562 local residents from Rasuwa, 115 from Nuwakot, 65 from Makwanpur, 3 in Langtang National Park, alongside various government and security personnel.
Security forces totaling 19,895 personnel have rescued 8,186 individuals—comprising 2,974 by the Nepali Army, 2,699 by Nepal Police, and 2,513 by the Armed Police Force—with helicopter operations successfully airlifting 279 workers from hydropower tunnels and 227 foreign nationals.
Relief operations are actively underway with 37 trucks and 7 helicopter flights delivering food and non-food supplies, specialized surgical medical teams deployed to affected areas, and government cash relief funds distributed across impacted local municipalities.
