KATHMANDU: The Nepali Army has rescued 829 people by air—including 101 foreign tourists—following catastrophic flooding along the Bhote Koshi River, military officials confirmed.
Deploying a fleet of 15 helicopters across the hard-hit Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, emergency crews are racing against time in a massive search and rescue operation.
Ground forces have brought another 200 survivors to safety, while more than 4,500 troops remain mobilized to locate missing residents and deliver aid, according to military spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet.
To handle the surge of casualties, the military has set up a field hospital in Trishuli, Nuwakot, which has already treated 1,145 flood victims.
Search teams are deploying drones and trained service dogs to scan debris for survivors, while 20 truckloads of emergency supplies are being airlifted directly into cut-off communities.
