KATHMANDU: Following widespread rumors that a glacial lake outburst in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts could trigger another massive flood in the Bhote Koshi River, the Flood Forecasting Division has clarified that there is no immediate possibility of a major flood.
The Division, operating under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, issued a notice late Friday night to address the surge of public inquiries and concerns regarding the alleged glacial outburst and flood risks.
Officials stated that they are in continuous communication with their Chinese counterpart agencies and are regularly monitoring the situation based on real-time data.
Based on current data and verified information, authorities confirmed there is no risk of a sudden, large-scale flood.
The public has been urged to remain calm and disregard unverified or misleading rumors.
The center assured that if water levels rise or any flood risk develops, immediate early warnings will be broadcast directly to residents via SMS alerts on their mobile phones.
