HETAUDA: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya will seek a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on Monday, August 17.
Baniya has asked the Assembly Secretariat to convene a meeting at 1 p.m. for the vote.
His government was pushed into a minority after the CPN (UML) withdrew its support on July 22.
The UML and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) have since been trying to form a new coalition but have yet to secure the numbers.
Baniya needs 53 votes in the 110-member Assembly. His Nepali Congress has 36 seats and is backed by two lawmakers from the Hamro Nepali Party, giving him 38 votes. He therefore needs at least 15 more lawmakers to save his government.
The NCP has 26 seats and UML 25. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party, with 12 seats, has opted to stay out of government formation, while the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, with three seats, remains in opposition.
