KATHMANDU: The Bangladesh government has donated Rs 134.50 million to the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund.

The amount was provided today to support ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and humanitarian efforts following the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Humayun Kabir informed about the assistance while handing over a letter sent by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman to Prime Minister of Nepal Balendra Shah to Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari.

Earlier, on September 1, Minister of State Kabir signed the condolence book kept at the Nepalese Embassy in Dhaka and expressed condolences over the Bhote Koshi flood disaster.

Following the flash flood, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tariq Rahman expressed solidarity with the Government of Nepal and the Nepalese people through a message sent to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, conveying deep condolences and sympathy to the victims.

Similarly, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed profound grief and sympathy over the huge loss of life and property caused by the disaster in Nepal, conveying his condolences through President Ram Chandra Poudel.

Expressing grief and sympathy for the flood victims and missing persons, the Parliament of Bangladesh passed a condolence resolution during its meeting on August 27. A one-minute silence was observed to pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls. The Parliament also urged the Bangladesh government to take immediate steps to provide necessary assistance to Nepal in response to the disaster.

Additionally, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Dr. Khalilur Rahman held a telephone conversation with his Nepalese counterpart Shisir Khanal on August 27 regarding the matter.

During the conversation, he assured that Bangladesh was ready to provide all possible assistance to Nepal as needed and discussed ways to extend humanitarian aid.
