KATHMANDU: Bardaghat municipality in West Nawalparasi has announced plans to provide tax-related services directly from the local level.
The initiative aims to eliminate the need for taxpayers to travel to the Inland Revenue Office in Bhairahawa.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the municipality and the Inland Revenue Office to facilitate this transition.
Mayor Shambhulal Shrestha stated that providing services locally will significantly reduce the burden on residents of Bardaghat and surrounding areas who previously had to travel to Bhairahawa.
The situation arose after the Taxpayer Service Office in Parasi was merged into the Inland Revenue Office in Bhairahawa.
Premraj Pokharel, chief of the Inland Revenue Office in Bhairahawa, noted that the move is part of a policy to decentralize tax administration.
He added that local delivery will make the process more convenient for taxpayers and assist in bringing more individuals into the tax net.
Baburam Paudel, the chief administrative officer of Bardaghat municipality, confirmed that preparations, including staff management, are underway and the service is expected to commence within the next two weeks. There are approximately 58,000 taxpayers across the seven local levels in Nawalparasi.
