Bardiya taxpayers to receive local government services

A A+ A-

BARDIYA: Taxpayers in Bardiya will soon be able to access tax-related services directly from their local government offices.

This transition follows an agreement between the Inland Revenue Office in Nepalgunj and local municipalities to decentralize service delivery.

Initial services are set to launch in Geruwa Rural Municipality, Rajapur Municipality, and Thakurbaba Municipality. Purna Prasad Neupane, chief of the Inland Revenue Office in Nepalgunj, stated that login IDs for these municipalities are currently being established, with services expected to commence by next Tuesday.

The office plans to extend this facility to all eight municipalities in the district, aiming to complete the rollout either before or shortly after the Dashain festival.

Under the new arrangement, taxpayers can obtain or renew permanent account numbers (PAN), manage excise licenses, update tax records, and request tax clearance certificates locally.

For larger businesses registered under VAT, local offices will collect documentation and forward it to the Inland Revenue Office for final approval. The government made the formal decision to shift these services to local levels on Nov. 3, 2025.

Previously, residents were required to travel to Gulariya or Nepalgunj to fulfill basic tax obligations. Thakurbaba Municipality Mayor Tilak Lamsal noted that the initiative will significantly improve convenience for citizens. He added that the change will eliminate the need for long-distance travel and reduce the time taxpayers spend waiting in lines.
