Beni-Darbang road reopens after one week closure

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The Beni-Darbang road, which serves as a vital link connecting three rural municipalities in western Myagdi to the district headquarters, has resumed operations after a week-long closure.

The road was blocked on Oct. 31 due to a dry landslide at Phaparkhet, located on the border of Beni Municipality-4 and Mangala Rural Municipality-2. The Infrastructure Development Office of Myagdi cleared the debris using heavy machinery to restore transport services today.

Raju Pandey, a representative of Mangala Construction, which was tasked with clearing the landslide, stated that the road was opened temporarily to accommodate the high volume of travellers during the Dashain festival. ‘We opened the road immediately considering the pressure of passengers travelling during Dashain, but further work is required for a permanent solution,’ Pandey said. He added that there are plans to conduct additional work to make the road reliable and risk-free once the festive period concludes.

The 24-kilometre road is considered a lifeline for residents of Mangala, Malika and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities. The closure caused significant inconvenience for people travelling to their hometowns for the festival and those returning to their workplaces. The Infrastructure Development Office confirmed that the route is now operational, providing relief to commuters.
