KATHMANDU: The Besisahar-Chame road, which had been blocked since Wednesday morning due to landslides, resumed operations on Friday morning.
The route in Khotre, Naso Rural Municipality-3 of Manang, was cleared after the Nepal Army used controlled explosions to remove large boulders and debris.
Nabin Bista, information officer for the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Project, stated that the road was blocked by significant amounts of debris, including massive rocks. Initial blasting on Thursday failed to break the largest boulder, necessitating a second round of controlled explosions on Friday to clear the path.
With the road now open, light vehicles have resumed travel, easing transit for passengers heading to and from Manang. Bista noted that it will take more time before the road is fully cleared for heavy vehicles.
The 65-kilometre Besisahar-Chame road serves as the primary link connecting Manang to the national road network. It is considered a vital artery for the transport of daily essential goods, construction materials, and the movement of tourists in the region.
