Bhimphedi accident victim Laxmi Badu dies during treatment

KATHMANDU: Laxmi Badu, 49, who sustained critical injuries after a Scorpio plunged into a ravine in Makawanpur on Tuesday morning, has died while receiving treatment in Kathmandu.

Badu was among six people injured when the Scorpio fell about 60 metres off the road at Jurikhel in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6. She was airlifted to Chhauni Hospital in Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter at around 10:40 am.

According to DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, Badu died during treatment. Her body has been kept at Chhauni Hospital. Badu was the wife of Tara Datta Badu, registrar of the High Court Birgunj.

Three other accident victims, including High Court Birgunj Chief Judge Gokarna Dangi, Ritendra Badu and Rita Badu, are undergoing treatment at Chhauni Hospital after being flown to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter at around 9:15 am.

Scorpio driver Chunilal Chaudhary and registrar Tara Datta Badu were taken to Hetauda Hospital for further treatment.

The accident took place when the Scorpio (Province 3-01-002 Jha 5183), travelling from Kathmandu to Birgunj, veered off the road at Jurikhel and plunged into a ravine about 60 metres below the roadway.
