RASUWA : A 25-member data evaluation committee has been formed in the district to collect details of the loss of life and property caused by the Bhote Koshi flood.
The committee was formed under the coordination of District Coordination Officer Rajendra Prasad Acharya.
Disaster Management Committee Coordinator and Chief District Officer Kamal Prasad Pandey shared that a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held on Tuesday gave the newly formed evaluation committee a mandate to collect preliminary details of the flood-induced losses within one month.
The committee includes chief representatives from 25 government and non-governmental agencies and bodies, including the Galchhi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syabrubesi-Rasuwa-Gadhi Road Improvement Project, Urban Development and Building Construction Project, Rasuwa Customs Office, security agencies, land survey, land administration, hydropower projects, and Nepal Intermodal, among others. Assistant Chief District Officer Dhruba Prasad Adhikari serves as the member-secretary of the committee.
Following the sweep-away of the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality building in Syabrubesi due to the flood, a decision has also been made to use the vacant building of the Rasuwa Soil Conservation Office for the rural municipality’s regular operations.
Similarly, the District Administration Office informed that a decision was made to move forward with the process of constructing a building within the community forest area above Betrawati to rebuild the Uttargaya Rural Municipality building, which was swept away by the flood in Khalte, Betrawati.
The meeting also decided that if private company helicopters need to be used for rescue and other disaster-related tasks in flood-affected areas, the District Administration Office will facilitate the necessary permissions upon receiving a written request for flights to Rasuwa as requested by the concerned organizations or individuals.
The flood caused human and physical damage across various locations in Rasuwa. The data collection committee is expected to work on collecting accurate damage details to advance the necessary processes for relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.
Meanwhile, the Rasuwa Civil Society has requested the swift installation of Bailey bridges over the Phalaku River at the Rasuwa-Nuwakot border, the Bhote Koshi in Syabrubesi, and the Ronga River—where bridges were swept away by floods—to reconnect the road and pedestrian network.
