KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating Bhote Koshi flood in Rasuwa has reached 1,342 as of 5:00 AM on Saturday, police confirmed.
The casualties retrieved across multiple downstream districts include 360 in Chitwan, 230 in Nawalparasi West, 222 in Nawalparasi East, 192 in Nuwakot, 160 in Rasuwa, 73 in Gorkha, 67 in Dhading, and 38 in Tanahun.
To manage the unprecedented volume of unidentified victims, authorities have collected 2,232 DNA samples—1,260 from the deceased and 972 from relatives seeking missing family members.
Police have preserved and temporarily buried 1,030 bodies (comprising 222 females, 355 males, and 453 unverified cases) after taking necessary identification markers.
Details and profiles of 1,270 unidentified bodies have been published on the official Nepal Police website to aid family verification.
A force of 7,912 police personnel remains deployed in the flood zones to handle rescue missions, relief distribution, body management, and road clearance operations.
Search operations continue for 4,898 people who remain missing, while 3,655 displaced individuals have been accommodated across various holding centers.
