Bhote Koshi flood: Death toll reaches 489, over 2,300 missing

KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating flash flood originating in Rasuwa has reached 489 as of Friday afternoon, according to Nepal Police.

Authorities have recovered bodies across eight districts, including 186 in Chitwan, 112 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), 44 in Gorkha, 40 in Dhading, 37 in Nuwakot, 29 in Tanahun, 28 in Nawalparasi (bardaghat Susta West) and 13 in Rasuwa.

Additionally, police report that 2,381 people remain unaccounted for, including 644 foreign nationals—primarily from India, the US, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia, the UK, and Canada—along with 127 Nepalis who were visiting from abroad and 1,737 domestic citizens.

Nepal Police and emergency services are actively relocating high-risk families to safe zones, clearing road blockages, and carrying out extensive search and rescue operations in coordination with local communities.
