KATHMANDU: The confirmed death toll from the devastating Bhote Koshi flood disaster has risen to 1,357, with thousands more unaccounted for as multi-agency search and rescue operations continue across affected districts, according to an official situation update released at 1:00 PM today by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
According to NDRRMA data, recovered bodies have been located across multiple districts, including Chitwan (363), Nawalparasi East (223), Nawalparasi West (222), Nuwakot (197), Rasuwa (161), Gorkha (75), Tanahun (38), and Dhading (70).
Out of the total fatalities recovered, authorities have formally identified and handed over 102 bodies to their families so far, while DNA sampling and identification procedures remain underway for remaining victims.
The authority estimates that approximately 5,326 individuals remain missing following the disaster.
The unaccounted population includes 2,860 individuals from Rasuwa district (comprising 1,393 local residents and 1,286 citizens from other districts), alongside 75 security personnel—comprising 45 from the Nepali Army, 25 from the Nepal Police, and 12 from the Armed Police Force—and 71 government and financial sector staff.
Additionally, local administration figures from Nuwakot report nearly 1,981 missing citizens, while roughly 587 foreign tourists remain unaccounted for.
Search, rescue, and relief efforts have mobilized more than 21,400 security personnel on the ground, including 9,712 Nepal Police officers, 7,203 Armed Police Force personnel, and 4,502 Nepali Army troops.
Aerial operations have conducted over 1,500 helicopter flights to drop emergency provisions and evacuate stranded populations, recording 1,157 flights by the Nepali Army, 203 by the Armed Police Force, and 121 via private sector aircraft.
To date, emergency crews have successfully rescued 13,583 people from affected zones. Over 6,820 injured individuals have received or are currently undergoing medical treatment, including 327 in designated hospitals, 3,404 cared for by Nepali Army medical units, and 3,096 treated by Armed Police Force medical teams.
Furthermore, 3,533 displaced residents are currently being housed across 31 temporary holding centers established in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading.
