KATHMANDU: The death toll from the catastrophic flash floods along the Bhote Koshi River has reached 1,452 as of 5:00 AM on Wednesday.
According to Nepal Police updates, 1,450 bodies have been recovered across eight affected districts: 367 in Chitwan, 236 in Rasuwa, 232 in Nawalparasi East, 222 in Nawalparasi West, 204 in Nuwakot, 79 in Gorkha, 72 in Dhading, and 38 in Tanahun.
Additionally, two victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
To ensure proper identification, officials have collected 3,345 DNA samples—1,329 from the deceased and 2,016 from relatives seeking missing family members.
After completing initial identification protocols and sample collection, authorities have safely buried 1,333 bodies for temporary management.
Details of 1,422 unidentified victims have been uploaded to the official Nepal Police website to assist families in identification efforts.
A massive search and relief effort is currently underway across the affected regions.
A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed for rescue operations, relief distribution, and body management.
Search teams continue to look for 4,718 people who remain missing, while 1,242 displaced individuals are currently housed in temporary holding centers established across various districts.
