KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating Bhote Koshi flood has risen to 1,290 as rescue teams continue recovery operations across affected regions.
According to updated data released by the Nepal Police, the recovered casualties include 34 boys, 45 girls, 250 women, and 426 men, along with 532 partial remains and 2 victims who succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Emergency response efforts remain at full scale, with 7,932 police personnel deployed to assist 65 affected areas, though 25 officers currently remain out of contact.
Search teams have successfully rescued and provided aid to 8,127 individuals, while 3,631 survivors are receiving temporary shelter in holding centers.
Authorities continue to face massive challenges as 4,798 people remain missing, comprising 2,847 citizens and 601 foreign nationals.
To assist with identification, medical teams have collected 1,862 DNA samples—1,143 from the deceased and 719 from relatives—while 916 bodies have been buried and 1,141 remain unidentified.
In addition to frontline operations, authorities have conducted 106 public awareness sessions reaching 41,726 participants to support ongoing recovery and relief efforts.
