KATHMANDU: A total of 403 tourists have gone missing in the massive flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River, Rasuwa.
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) informed that the flood-induced disaster has so far left 62 Nepali and 341 foreign tourists unaccounted for.
NTB’s Officiating CEO Hikmat Singh Ayer shared that 403 tourists traveling to Gosainkunda and Kailash Mansarovar through various companies are missing.
Among those missing, 203 are men and 200 are women. Majority of the missing tourists are Indians.
So far, 133 are from India, 47 from the United States, 34 from Australia, 33 from the United Kingdom, 24 from Canada, 19 from Malaysia, seven from Ukraine, six each from Singapore and South Africa, and five each from New Zealand and Japan.
Besides, NTB has reported that citizens from more than 25 other countries, including Germany, France, Russia, Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands, are also missing in the flood.
The disaster has caused major damage to settlements, police posts, and customs offices in the Timure and Syafrubensi areas.
The roads and bridges connecting the Rasuwagadhi border are also damaged due to the flood.
The Nepal Tourism Board has said those needing information or help should contact the toll-free number 1234, hotline number 1144, and tourism police at 9851289445 for any information or assistance.
