KATHMANDU: A total of 10,451 people have been rescued so far from areas hit by the August 26 Bhotekoshi flash floods.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the Nepal Army rescued 3,344 Nepalis and 252 foreigners by air. Fifteen Chinese and seven Indian nationals were rescued from hydropower construction areas on August 30.
Four hundred eleven flights were operated so far for the search and rescue operation in the flood-hit areas. Activities for searching people missing from affected areas have been accelerated along with rescue operation, added the Authority.
NDRRMA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat mentioned that 903 bodies, out of those killed in floods, have been recovered so far and 4,247 are still missing. The flood has affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Tanahu and Chitwan, among others.
A total of 20,899 security personnel—7,894 from Nepal Police, 8,722 from Nepal Army and 4,203 from Armed Police Force Nepal have been mobilized at flood-hit areas for search and rescue operation.
