Bhotekoshi flood: 191 rescued from hydropower tunnels

KATHMANDU: In the aftermath of devastating flash floods in Bhotekoshi and Trishuli River systems on Wednesday, 191 workers were rescued from inside from the under-construction hydropower tunnels located along the rivers.

The rescued include engineers, technicians and manual workers. They were rescued by the Nepali Army (NA) teams and evacuated to safety, it is said.

According to the NA’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information, NA teams brought to safety 900 people including 56 foreigners from Timure, Syafrubesi and Mailung areas in Rasuwa from Friday morning to the afternoon.

ince August 26, the NA has rescued a total of 2,101 people through land and air operations. It provided medical assistance to 1,706 people through its emergency medical centers in Trishuli and Dhunche. Around 6,700 security personnel have been mobilised in the disaster-affected areas for the rescue, search and relief operations.

The NA has continued search for the missing persons and recovering dead bodies from riverbanks. It has intensified search and rescue operations in Mailung, Timure and Syafrubesi, while continuing to provide emergency medical assistance to the affected people.
