KAPILVASTU: Two hundred and forty-eight people from various districts of Lumbini province are still unaccounted for due to the flash flood in the Bhote Koshi river in Rasuwa on August 26.
According to the Emergency Operation Center under the provincial government’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law, Industry, and Transport, among those missing in the devastating flood are 76 from Bardiya, 54 from Dang, 24 from Rolpa, 23 from Banke, 19 from Rupandehi, nine each from Palpa, Pyuthan and Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), eight from Arghakhanchi, seven from Gulmi, six from Kapilvastu, and four from Rukum East.
Similarly, after the flood, 158 dead bodies were recovered in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West). The Center stated that among these bodies, 52 belonged to women, 90 to men, six were of boys, six were of girls, and the gender of four could not be identified. Additionally, 64 body parts were also found there. The total number of bodies and body parts recovered has reached 222.
Among the recovered bodies, nine have been identified. Among those identified, one was a woman’s and eight were men’s. The report mentions that a total of 206 bodies have been managed, including 142 bodies and 64 body parts.
The Center said the search for people missing after the flood and the identification and management of bodies and body parts are ongoing.
