KATHMANDU: A massive flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Wednesday morning has caused extensive damage in Rasuwa district, devastating two market areas, including Timure, and the Rasuwa customs area.
The flood in Lende Khola, also known as the Bhotekoshi River, caused widespread destruction near the Rasuwa-China border point, according to Dhruva Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer of Rasuwa.
“Two market areas have been devastated. Timure and another nearby market have been severely affected,” Adhikari told Nepal Khabar. “A large number of vehicles and other goods were kept in the Rasuwa customs area. They have all been swept away by the flood.”
Adhikari said the flood swept away the market areas and the customs premises, causing significant damage to infrastructure and property.
A newly constructed bridge has also been washed away by the flood. The bridge had only recently been completed after the previous bridge was destroyed by last year’s floods.
Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage, while access to the affected areas remains difficult due to the powerful flood current and disruption to roads and communication networks.
