BAJURA: A flood in the local Birekhola stream displaced 23 families in Badimalika Municipality-6 of Bajura, following incessant rainfall late Friday night.
According to local Lalsingh Saud, a mudslide in the upper course of the stream blocked the flow of water, forming a pond.
The accumulated water later burst through the blockage, triggering a major flood along the border of wards 6 and 8 of Badimalika Municipality.
Saud said the flood forced the locals to flee their homes, leaving them without adequate food and shelter.
Though the flood caused no human casualties, it has brought a serious crisis to the locals. It is said additional 18 families are at risk of further disaster and related further consequences.
According to the acting ward chair of the Badimalika Mucipality-6, a total of 41 families have been affected by the flood. Paddy fields in the area have also been severely damaged, with large stretches of farmland buried under the mud and debris.
This is not the first time that the Badimalika locals have borne the brunt of the flooding.
