KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice-President Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said the party will not split despite the differences emerging among its leaders and members, stressing that all decisions will be guided by its rules, legal procedures and established mechanisms.
Sharma said it would be too early to assume that the party was heading toward a split simply because of disagreements within its ranks. He maintained that all matters concerning the party would be resolved in accordance with the prevailing laws and prescribed procedures.
According to Sharma, formal decisions on political and constitutional matters can only be made by the institutions legally authorized to do so. Therefore, he said statements or claims made outside those institutions should not be regarded as final decisions.
Using a football analogy, Sharma said spectators cannot issue yellow or red cards to players because that authority belongs to the referee. Likewise, he said formal decisions in politics can only be made by authorized institutions such as the Election Commission and the Supreme Court.
Sharma said speculation and differing views about the party’s internal situation should not overshadow the importance of its statute, established procedures and legal framework.
He reiterated that the party would continue to move forward by giving priority to its rules, statute and the prevailing legal process.
