KATHMANDU: The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has rejected claims of a lack of transparency in sharing hydrological and meteorological data with Nepal, describing the allegations as completely baseless.
The embassy issued a statement following media reports accusing China of withholding weather and water data. According to the embassy, a massive landslide at the Kerung-Rasuwa border crossing last Wednesday damaged a local monitoring station, disrupted traffic, and caused signal loss in the affected watershed area. Despite these operational difficulties, China made every effort to restore the data communication network.
A spokesperson for the embassy stated that China continues to provide daily key hydrological and meteorological figures to Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Relevant information is also being shared with other Nepali government agencies in a timely manner.
The embassy noted that unfounded allegations undermine bilateral cooperation in disaster management. It added that China remains committed to assisting Nepal in disaster response, protecting lives and property, and supporting post-disaster recovery and reconstruction.
