NEW DELHI: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit and is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today.
Upon his arrival, President Xi was accorded a warm reception featuring classical dance performances by cultural troupes representing India’s North East and other regions.
His delegation includes Cai Qi, Director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The visit marks President Xi’s first trip to New Delhi since 2014 and comes amid ongoing efforts by both nations to stabilize bilateral ties.
During the summit, the Chinese leader is expected to advance proposals focused on Global South cooperation, building on momentum from the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) discussions.
In addition to attending the summit’s closed-door leaders’ sessions on multilateral governance, President Xi will join Prime Minister Modi and other delegation heads for official events, including the ‘India Innovates’ exhibition, prior to a bilateral bilateral discussion and state dinner on Saturday evening.
