KHOTANG: Sakela Rural Municipality has set up a community health centre at Sekhuwa, a distant village in the district.
The Sekhuwa people were facing constraints to access health services for long owing to geographical difficulty and remoteness.
The facility launched its service from Monday. It the eighth such health unit established by the local level.
Rural Municipality chairman Rabin Prakash Rai inaugurated the health centre’s building amidst a function on Monday. Ward No-1 covers a large area in this local government, but the people here were forced to visit distant places for accessing health services.
“Geographical difficulty must not be a barrier to citizen’s rights to access health services. The State must show its presence to the people from all locations,” Rai said, adding that establishment of health centre has practically ensured citizen’s right to health.
He, however, said lone efforts of local government and people’s representatives are not enough for development. Wider public participation is essential for it, Rai reminded.
Chairman Rai further underlined the need of unity among people and people’s representatives to forward development works. “Some can provide voluntary labour, some donate land and some cater knowledge and skills in the development campaign,” he stressed.
Chairman of Ward No-1, Heman Rai, said the people in Sekhuwa were now free of compulsion and hassles to visit distant places for securing treatment for general health problems.
Adam Bahadur Rai, who donated land for establishing the health facility, was honoured by the local government.
