KATHMANDU: The Technical Hydropower Family, a group affiliated with the Nepal Electricity Authority, has expressed concern over the delay in rescuing 45 skilled technicians and employees trapped inside the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower project following the floods in Rasuwa.
In an appeal made public on Saturday, the group said the rescue operation was initiated late and had failed to gain the expected pace, urging the government to intensify efforts to rescue those trapped inside the tunnel.
“Given the oxygen levels inside the tunnel, rising water levels, structural risks, communication challenges and other technical hazards, every passing minute is becoming critically important for saving lives,” the appeal said.
The group urged the government to conduct the rescue operation on a war footing, stressing that the skilled workforce that routinely risks their lives working day and night to resolve technical problems at hydropower plants across the country is now itself waiting to be rescued from a natural disaster.
