KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe has demanded that the government immediately implement the recommendations made by the National Human Rights Commission regarding the events of the Gen Z protests.
He issued a statement on Tuesday marking the one-year anniversary of the movement. Angdembe noted that the commission has already recommended action against all parties involved in inciting violence during peaceful protests, infiltrating demonstrations, using excessive force on Sept. 9, and causing destruction on Sept. 10.
He stated, ‘The government must immediately make the National Human Rights Commission report public and fully implement its recommendations. Regardless of who is involved, there must be an impartial investigation and legal action.’
He emphasized that no one should be granted immunity based on political protection or the influence of power.
According to him, both those who abused state power and those who took the law into their own hands to push the country toward destruction must be held accountable.
Angdembe claimed that the commission’s report is more credible than the Gauri Bahadur Karki commission report, though he expressed concern that the ruling leadership may have interfered with the document to protect themselves.
Furthermore, Angdembe paid tribute to the youths who lost their lives during the Gen Z movement and urged the government to ensure long-term treatment, rehabilitation, and necessary support for the injured.
He stated that the sacrifices made during the movement should not be used as personal political property by any party or individual, adding that the issues raised by the movement must be addressed through state policy, governance, and conduct.
