Congress dissident faction forms 551-member national convention organizing committee

KATHMANDU: The dissident faction of the Nepali Congress has announced a 551-member National Convention Main Organizing Committee under the leadership of former General Secretary Shashank Koirala.

The announcement was made at a press conference held on Saturday at the faction’s contact office in Chundevi. The committee, along with several subcommittees, has been formed to ensure the smooth and systematic organization of the upcoming national convention.

The main organizing committee includes the Nepali Congress central office-bearers and Central Working Committee members elected during the party’s 14th General Convention. It also comprises provincial committee presidents and office-bearers, district presidents, office-bearers of district committees within the Kathmandu Valley, as well as metropolitan and municipal party chiefs, according to leader Min Bahadur Bishwakarma.

In addition, federal and provincial lawmakers, former ministers, and the heads of the party’s sister and affiliated organizations have been included in the committee as ex-officio members.

To ensure the convention’s policy and organizational success, the faction has also established 16 thematic committees. These include committees responsible for drafting the political proposal, organizational proposal, amendments to the party statute, and the economic policy framework.

Several management-focused committees have also been formed, covering publicity and communications, financial management, accommodation and catering, stage management, volunteer mobilization, and health services. Separate committees have also been assigned to coordinate security and administrative affairs, as well as manage the convention secretariat.
