KATHMANDU: The supply of cooking gas and essential goods in the Kathmandu Valley has been severely disrupted as the Prithvi Highway remains blocked for eight days due to a landslide at Krishna Bhir in Dhading. The blockage has left vehicles carrying fuel, petroleum products, and food supplies stranded along the route.
Following the road closure, long queues of consumers have formed at various gas distribution centers across Kathmandu. Residents, including those in the Dharmapath area of New Road, have been waiting in line for hours to secure cooking gas. The shortage has intensified as gas bullets destined for bottling plants in and around the valley have been unable to reach their destinations.
Authorities are currently working to clear the debris and restore traffic flow on the highway. However, there are growing concerns that a prolonged blockage could lead to further supply chain issues for essential commodities. Despite rising prices and increased demand, consumers continue to face significant difficulties, with some reportedly arriving at distribution points in the middle of the night to secure supplies.
