DHANUSA: Authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew in several parts of Rajbiraj Municipality, the district headquarters of Saptari, effective from 5:00 a.m. Friday, as security agencies moved to maintain law and order amid rising tensions in the Madhesh region.

In a public notice, the Saptari District Administration Office said the curfew was enforced following a decision of the District Security Committee to preserve peace and public security.

According to the order issued by Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa, the curfew covers the area within Khando River in the east, the Judni–Dhalhi section of the Hulaki Highway in the west, Basbitti Chowk on Rupani Road in the north, and the Koshi West Main Canal along the Bishnupur Rural Municipality border in the south. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

Curfew continues in Janakpur

Meanwhile, the Dhanusha District Administration Office said the indefinite curfew in Janakpurdham remains in force.

The administration temporarily relaxed the curfew from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Friday to allow residents to purchase essential daily necessities.

Authorities said essential services-including hospitals, pharmacies, air services, gas supply, petroleum transportation and distribution, ambulances, fire services, hearses, and vehicles carrying drinking water and milk—will continue to operate during the curfew.

The administration also said that health workers, government employees, journalists, Nepal Red Cross personnel, pilgrims, patients, and air passengers will be permitted to travel upon presentation of valid identification cards or airline tickets issued by the relevant authorities.
