Dan Bahadur Karki seeks reinstatement as IGP, Supreme Court hearing likely after Tihar

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The Former Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki’s petition seeking reinstatement after his removal is unlikely to receive an initial hearing at the Supreme Court before the Tihar holidays.

Karki’s lawyers submitted a writ petition on Thursday, arguing that the government unlawfully removed him before the end of his tenure. However, the court did not register the petition, informing his legal representatives that it was still under review.

The Supreme Court usually schedules an initial hearing for the day after a petition is registered. Even if Karki’s petition is registered on Friday, the start of the Tihar holidays means the hearing will likely take place only after the break.

The government removed Karki on Wednesday, appointed Manoj Kumar KC as the new IGP and assigned Karki the role of the prime minister’s special security adviser. Karki has yet to receive the Cabinet decision letter concerning his new assignment.
