Daunne bus accident: Identities of five of six victims confirmed

KATHMANDU: Sx people were killed and 10 others injured when a passenger bus met with an accident at the S-bend in Daunne, Binayi Triveni-2 of Nawalpur, on Saturday morning.

The bus, heading to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj, lost control on a downhill road and plunged into a ditch, according to the District Police Office, Nawalpur.

District Police Office spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Pandit identified five of the six deceased. They are Nirjung Khatri, 50, of Bheriganga Municipality-3, Jajarkot; Dipendra KC, 32, of Kohalpur Municipality-3, Banke; Narendra Raj Giri, 65, of Swamikartik Rural Municipality, Bajura; Ekendra Raj Regmi, 55, of Kohalpur Municipality-10, Banke; and Krish Kanaujiya, 22, of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City-7. The identity of the sixth victim, estimated to be between 40 and 42 years old, remains unknown.

The injured passengers have been identified as Harisharan Thapa, Tejendra Prasad Bhandari, Aakriti Tharu, Pawan Budha, Sanjay Tharu, Prem Bam, Anoj Khatri, Lal Bahadur Karki, Aslam Bhagwan, and Anil Budhathoki.

Among the injured, Aslam Bhagwan, who sustained a serious head injury, has been referred to the New Medical College in Chitwan for further treatment.

Police confirmed that there were 18 people on board, including the driver, and two passengers were reported unhurt. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
