Death toll reaches 1,409 in Bhote Koshi floods

KATHMANDU: As of 11:00 AM on Thursday, the death toll from the devastating Bhote Koshi River floods reached 1,409.

According to authorities, 1,407 bodies have been recovered across several districts, including 364 in Chitwan, 232 in Nawalparasi East, 222 in Nawalparasi West, 202 in Nuwakot, 199 in Rasuwa, 78 in Gorkha, 72 in Dhading, and 38 in Tanahun.

Additionally, two victims passed away while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.

Authorities have safely buried 1,237 bodies so far after completing necessary legal procedures and collecting DNA samples for identification.

A total of 3,230 DNA samples have been gathered—1,286 from the deceased and 1,944 from relatives searching for missing family members.

To aid the identification process, Nepal Police uploaded details of 1,361 unidentified bodies to their official website.
