Deuba faction wraps up national gathering, passes resolutions for 15th NC General Convention

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The rival faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has concluded its three-day national gathering in Sukedhara by adopting five key resolutions, including a decision to hold the party’s 15th General Convention under the leadership of former president Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Addressing the gathering, Deuba spoke about the country’s pressing challenges, praised the judiciary, and affirmed his personal Hindu faith while stressing the importance of religious freedom for all communities.

The resolutions call for holding the 15th General Convention under Deuba’s presidency, initiating dialogue with democratic forces in line with BP Koirala’s 1976 national reconciliation policy, protecting Sanatan heritage while guaranteeing religious liberty, pursuing constitutional amendments based on public aspirations, and authorizing a committee led by NP Saud to finalize official party documents.

The move is expected to further deepen the NC’s internal divisions, setting the stage for a direct confrontation with the Gagan Thapa-led faction, which has announced plans to hold the 15th General Convention by October.
