KATHMANDU: A total of 365 families in Hansapur Municipality-5, Dhanusha, have received land ownership certificates, granting them legal rights to the land they have occupied for years.
The recipients are residents of the former Suga Nikas VDC-3. According to the Survey Office in Dhanusha, the land in this area was surveyed in 2015, but the distribution of ownership certificates had been delayed due to various administrative reasons.
Umesh Kumar, chief of the Survey Office, stated that the distribution was made possible after resolving issues related to land registration in the village block and resident-occupied areas.
The issuance of these certificates provides the families with legal ownership of their property. According to Kumar, this will allow the residents to use their land as collateral for loans from banks and financial institutions. Furthermore, the ability to legally sell or transfer the land is expected to boost local economic activity and generate revenue for the state.
The Survey Office is currently conducting a broader campaign to distribute land ownership certificates across the district. Plans are underway to distribute certificates to 375 families in Kshireshwornath Municipality-1 and 2, as well as the former Ramdaiya Bhawadi VDC-3. The office added that it is studying the status of other lands across the district that have been surveyed but remain unregistered.
