KATHMANDU: Educational activities have commenced for children displaced by the Rasuwa Bhote Koshi floods.
A total of 132 displaced children currently staying in Kathmandu have started attending classes at Geetamata School in Dallu.
Sunita Dangol, Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), urged educators to treat the children with warmth and compassion, cautioning that careless words or actions could cause further emotional distress.
To encourage the students currently sheltered at Yellow Gumba in Nagarjun, executive members, public representatives, and officials from the KMC Education Department visited the school.
Some of the enrolled students have lost both parents, while others have lost one. To support their schooling, Koshish Nepal provided school bags, uniforms, and psychosocial counseling. Additionally, LRI School has arranged transportation to commute the children between the shelter and the school.
Harikrishna Shrestha, Principal of Geetamata School, stated that traumatized students are not being forced into rigorous routines. He noted that ongoing counseling efforts aim to help the children gradually return to normalcy.
