KATHMANDU: A 25-year-old bus driver, Arjun Dawa Lama, has died while undergoing treatment following a fire incident in Tripureshwor. Director of Kirtipur Hospital, Nijina Tamrakar, confirmed that the driver passed away last night.
The incident involved a public bus operated by Riddhi Siddhi Yatayat, bearing registration number Ba 5 Kha 4274, which was en route from Mulpani to Thankot.
Lama sustained severe burns covering more than 90 percent of his body. Although the fire was brought under control with the assistance of fire engines, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Reports indicate that Lama had been involved in a dispute with traffic police at 12:37 p.m., shortly before the incident occurred. Originally from Sisneri in Indrasarobar Rural Municipality of Makwanpur, Lama had been residing in Koteshwor.
He had been working for Riddhi Siddhi Yatayat for the past 3-4 months, having previously driven taxis and worked for Chandragiri Yatayat.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
