KATHMANDU: Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol has said that educational exchange programs can play a vital role in strengthening people-to-people relations between sister cities.

Dangol made the remarks during a meeting with Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson, where the two leaders discussed expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

During the meeting, Acting Mayor Dangol said Kathmandu would prioritize initiatives that enable citizens to directly experience and benefit from the sister-city relationship. She emphasized that educational and community-based programs could help deepen mutual understanding and collaboration between the two cities.

Mayor Knudson praised Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Book Free Friday initiative, saying she was impressed by the innovative program and its contribution to promoting learning and community engagement.

The meeting also focused on enhancing mutual cooperation between the people of Kathmandu and Eugene through exchanges and joint initiatives in cultural, environmental, social, economic, trade and commerce, educational, scientific, and technological fields. Both sides discussed promoting collaboration that would further strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two cities.
