KATHMANDU: Eight people were injured in a jeep accident in Thalajung, Siranchok Rural Municipality-2, Gorkha, on Sunday morning.
The Mahindra jeep, bearing registration number Ga 1 Ja 6389, was traveling from Bhachchek to Chitrepokhari when it crashed into a roadside wall at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Shrestha of the Gorkha District Police Office stated that two of the injured are in critical condition. The critically injured have been identified as 81-year-old Lalmaya Gurung of Siranchok-2 and 68-year-old Kamal Bahadur Ghimire of Siranchok-7. According to police, Lalmaya was trapped inside the vehicle, while Ghimire sustained injuries to his limbs. Both were reported to be in a non-responsive state.
A police team led by Inspector Deepak Babu KC from the Thantipokhari Area Police Office reached the site at 11:00 a.m. and successfully rescued Lalmaya Gurung at 12:05 p.m. Other passengers injured in the accident include Sita Pandey, Lok Bahadur Khadka, Kul Bahadur Sarki, Sita Gurung, Rojina Nepali, and her 21-month-old daughter, Rebika Nepali. All injured individuals have been transported to Aampipal Provincial Hospital for treatment.
The jeep was carrying nine people, including the driver, Bikash Gurung, at the time of the incident. Police have taken the driver into custody for further investigation.
