Engineer and mediator arrested in Kathmandu over Rs 64,000 bribe

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has arrested Dipa Karki, an engineer at Kageshwari Manohara Municipality in Kathmandu, along with a mediator, Asma Karki, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 64,000.

Dipa Karki was serving as a seventh-level engineer and chief of the municipality’s Building Construction and Settlement Development Branch. According to CIAA Spokesperson Suresh Neupane, she had repeatedly harassed a service seeker and demanded bribe money to approve structural analysis work.

A team deployed from the anti-graft body’s central office in Tangal apprehended both individuals with Rs 64,000 in cash following a complaint filed by the victim.

The suspects were detained on Monday from the municipality’s office located in Thali, Dachi. On Tuesday, the Special Court extended their remand to allow further investigation into the case, CIAA Spokesperson Neupane stated.
